The Maasvlakte 2 project has reshaped the Dutch coastline, expanding the nation’s boundaries. An area of 2,000 hectares that has moved the coastline a full three and a half kilometres. This new piece of land, five metres above Amsterdam Ordnance Datum (NAP), is the ideal location for seamless handling and transhipment of containers from all over the world to the hinterland of the Netherlands and Europe, thanks to its excellent accessibility.

RWG is an international consortium comprising four globally operating container shipping companies. The consortium currently consists of CMA CGM, ONE, HMM, and terminal operator DP World, with alliance partners also utilising RWG's facilities. Following the signing of the concession agreement with the Port of Rotterdam Authority in 2007 and five years of preparation, the actual construction of our container terminal began in June 2012. Since then, RWG has become an integral part of the Port of Rotterdam.

With the realisation of RWG, the world's safest, most sustainable, and innovative terminal has become a reality. It's a terminal that meets all the requirements of the modern customer: fast, efficient, reliable, and operational 24/7. Built by people and for people, it's a terminal we are rightfully proud of.

RWG employs state-of-the-art equipment and technologies to handle the current and future generation of Ultra Large Container Ships as efficiently as possible. For hinterland transport, RWG offers dedicated container handling across all modalities: road, rail, and inland waterways. In doing so, RWG makes a significant contribution to the further development of Mainport Rotterdam as Europe's largest port and one of the most important ports worldwide.

We have collaborated with many parties to establish the RWG terminal and consolidate our role as a newcomer in the Port of Rotterdam. I am particularly grateful to all those involved for their contribution to the realisation of the RWG terminal. I proudly look forward to welcoming all customers and modalities that will call at our terminal. With the Rotterdam mentality of 'actions speak louder than words' and our sleeves rolled up, RWG guarantees the handling of their cargo.
